About
Meet the House
Founded in 2015 by Steven Hilliard and his then-partner Adam — because with names like ours, how can you not?
Our story
Born from the rooms Hamilton lost
By 2015, Hamilton's dedicated queer venues (The Embassy, The Werx, M Bar, Crush, Steel Lounge) had all gone dark. As founder Steven Hilliard puts it: when queer bars disappeared, Hamilton became less fun. House of Adam and Steve was the answer.
Rather than open one more bar that could close, Steven Hilliard committed to a different model: make the rooms we already love more welcoming. They partnered with bars, theatres and restaurants across the city; turning mainstream venues into safer spaces through drag shows, brunches, bingo and big, joyful parties.
A decade on, that work has helped revive Hamilton's drag scene and grown beyond the city, with shows now reaching Guelph, Toronto, the Tri-Cities and beyond, and a community 13,000-strong on Instagram. The mission hasn't changed: carve out and foster safer spaces, and make people happy.
